My Story - Our Story

Picture
Together, we have the power to shape our perspectives on ourselves, others, and the world around us.

I am truly grateful to be surrounded by people who embrace life's awe-inspiring potential. As social creatures, we thrive on love and connection, and our thoughts and actions are influenced by our experiences and the people in our lives. The beauty of our neuroplastic brains is that we can actively reshape our perspectives through intentional thought and the support of a nurturing community.

Like most people, I've faced challenges with moments of anxiety, stress, frustration, and imposter syndrome. However, I've been fortunate to have the tools and community—family, friends, colleagues, and coaches—to help me persevere through challenges. This ongoing process allows me to transform my feelings, take constructive action, and ultimately, enjoy life's journey while striving for my definition of success: happiness, health, a family that is loved and equipped, and financial security.

Join me as we explore the power of positive thinking, foster a supportive environment, and work together to shape a brighter future for ourselves and the world. Welcome to our collective adventure!
Although I don't usually seek the spotlight, preferring to help others achieve success in work and life, I understand the importance of sharing my story. By doing so, you can better understand my background and intentions, and decide if you can trust me and our community to support you on your journey.

I was fortunate to be raised by loving parents who instilled in me a passion for learning and fun. My father, still mentally and physically active at 92, taught me the value of curiosity and not judging others too quickly. As an elementary school principal and community builder, he united people around a shared vision for a safe and supportive environment for children's growth. My mother, an early childhood specialist at the University of Minnesota, has always provided unconditional love, and despite her Alzheimer's, continues to share her joyful presence with those around her. My sister, an advocate for women in the construction industry, is incredibly kind, fun and adventurous - and loves to ride her Harley's. Whenever someone finds out I’m Howard’s or Helene’s son, they get huge smiles, often hug me, then tell me story after story about Mom and Dad’s impact on them or their children. They treated people and children with unconditional love, attention, and curiosity. One of our clients, a CEO and business owner, introduces me to others as the son of his childhood Principal.

Throughout my 20+ year corporate career, I've been fortunate to witness outstanding human-based leadership (as opposed to hierarchy obedience-based) from entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 executives. In these environments, leaders leverage human connection as a catalyst for achieving business and personal results. Over the past 8 years, I've been coaching small business owners and corporate executives, helping them grow their businesses, teams and families. My holistic approach to coaching often leads to conversations about marriage and parenting, and my clients have become a source of inspiration in my own parenting journey and desire to inspire the next generation of leaders.

My wife Katy and I have been married for over 25 years. We have two wonderful children: Calloway, a high school senior who recently completed basketball season and is now excited for golf before beginning college at the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering in the fall, and Paisley, our vibrant and extroverted sixth-grade daughter who has a passion for dance. As a family, we love spending time together playing games, exploring the outdoors, attending sports and theater events, traveling, and dining out.

Throughout my travels for work and pleasure, I've been captivated by the uniqueness of individuals worldwide, while also recognizing our shared humanity. I've engaged in deep conversations with people across continents, and believe that common ground can be found in our interests, hobbies, and desires for love, belonging, fun, and purpose. I hope our community will embrace this inclusive, learning mindset.

With a background in engineering, inspired by two of my uncles, I discovered my preference for the conceptual side of the field. Over my 20+ year corporate engineering and manufacturing career, I've enjoyed various roles, including my last position as Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and European General Manager at our Germany office. I also had the opportunity to live and work in Germany with my family while I looked for European acquisitions for our Fortune 500 parent company. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and an Executive MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

For the past eight years, I've helped business owners and leaders achieve breakthrough results by improving productivity, processes, teamwork, and leadership. I'm certified in Neuroencoding, DiSC, The Five Behaviors, MBTI, Maxwell Leadership, and Executive/Career/Life Coaching. My favorite aspect of coaching is witnessing client's personal breakthroughs in confidence, empowerment of their teams, and enjoyment of life's journey. The last year I've spent more time helping business leaders connect the common approach of leading teams and organizations with leading a family: setting goals, listening, kindness, communication, experimentation, perseverance, love and celebration. The extraordinary benefit of instilling this modern approach to leadership, which produces better and faster results, is it gives children confidence and leadership skills they can apply to all facets of their life and future career.

My Bold Start, established in mid-2023, is more than just my story; it's our collective journey. I am eager for you to gain knowledge, tools, and a new mindset that will not only benefit you, but also the community, your family, friends, and colleagues. Together, we'll build a Bold Start for Good Community, learning from and inspiring each other along the way.
